  • God is Our Refuge

Here is an excellent word for troubled times from Pastor Roy.

    Love, Bee

“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in
him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will
not be shaken.  My victory and honor come from God alone. He is my
refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. O my people, trust in
him at all times.  Pour out your heart to him,
    for God is our refuge.”
    Psalm 62:5-8

“Although David the shepherd had been anointed as the next king of
Israel, he spent most of the early years of his leadership training
running for his life.  He was being hunted because he was so good, not
because he was so evil.  These challenging days didn’t make him bitter,
    they taught him to wait.
David was being taught that no matter how
close his enemies were to capturing him, they were never going to
actually reach him.  In our science fiction world we would say that he
was surrounded by a powerful force field that didn’t allow him to be
touched no matter how sure his powerful enemies were that this time
they had him trapped.  David was being taught that what God wanted him
to do was wait quietly for his God to protect him and direct him so
that all that God had promised him would come true.  David came to know
his God as a mighty rock, a high walled fortress, a powerful Savior
that kept him safe every time.

David had been anointed the next king because God had called him to be
the king that would lead God’s people from victory to victory.  God had
planned that this shepherd boy would some day be honored for his faith
and his courage as he waited for his God to fulfill the plans that he
had for him.  David knew by experience that he could trust God and that
when his people trusted like he did, they also would share in God’s
protection and eternal plan.  David also knew by experience how
challenging this kind of quiet waiting would be for people who were
used to thinking in terms of how strong they were and not how strong
    their God was.
This kind of stress can only be faced successfully if
those involved pour out their hearts to God in faith and quiet
dependence on him.  May the Lord help us to remember that he has also
planned every day or our lives before we began to breathe. (Psalm
139:16)  Although we have not been anointed as kings, we have been
called into God’s family to carry out his plans through us. May we like
David wait quietly, hopefully and securely on our Rock, Jesus.”
